I must say CES is about my favorite tech event of the year (with MWC being very close). I get to see some of the latest and hottest tech in the world, I have some fun with my co-workers (working from home, that is kind of eventful) and companies bring all kinds of interesting performers to the show floor.
Many happen to love the so-called “booth babes”. I am not a big fan of the term, or the whole concept. It seems odd to see tech companies trying to sell their products like this, when their devices should be good enough to grab our attention. I suppose they really believe that whole “sex sells” mentality. And sadly, many times it does.
Regardless, I won’t complain too much because it can also be a good opportunity. In a way it becomes a free way to practice photographing people. These are usually paid models too, so they often know how to act in front of a camera.
I didn’t get too much free time to practice on my photography this time. I was insanely busy with work, but I will go ahead and show you a few shots.
The image above was taken at the Sigma booth. They were showcasing their newest products, and in the midst of it all was a model standing next to a brand-spanking new Lexus. You could take one of the many cameras and test Sigma’s lenses by shooting photos of the scenery.
Of course, I tested their 18-35 f1.8 lens a few times, but there is nothing like the gear you already know. I was already comfortable with my own equipment and thought I should keep the shots that I took with it.
One downside is that there are a LOT of distractions at these events. This makes for some heavy editing, and not even then will the photos be perfect. But one does what one can, and the results are fair. Even if I did have to crop the photo a bit.
Now let’s take a look at Ms. Sailor Moon over at the Ricoh/Pentax booth. It was an interesting concept, they would do all the models’ make up and preparations on stage. After all was done, the public was allowed to test cameras and lenses.
Of course, I fell in love with their medium format cameras, but that’s another story. Those are far out of my financial reach for now. Here is Sailor Moon:
Hope you guys liked these ones! Please do share your opinions with me. Let me know what you like, what you don’t like and how you think these could have been improved.
